At the end of 1951, Ernst Wagner arrived at the bakery in the Saarland village of Braunshausen, with a population of 700, and became the youngest master baker in the Saarland.
The history of Nestlé Wagner GmbH begins in this village bakery in Braunshausen: in 1952, master baker Ernst Wagner opens a bakery in his parents' house.
To pre-process and freeze popular dishes, Ernst Wagner becomes a pioneer of the German frozen food industry. Roast meat above the swivel grill is the first ready-to-eat frozen product, which he supplies to the trade and gastronomy companies.
With the production of frozen meat dishes in cooking bags, Ernst Wagner's company is continuously developing into a wholesale rotisser.
In the early 1970s, Ernst Wagner brought on a trip to Italy the idea of making frozen pizzas commercially and started the first attempts at pizza production.
Ernst Wagner starts large-scale pizza production. His credo: the technique must be adapted to the product and not the other way around!
With increasing success, Wagner shuns neither expense nor effort to achieve the very best product quality. A warehouse for perishable and frozen products is being built in Otzenhausen.
Wagner surprises the food industry with a completely new product: the “Original Wagner Brick Oven Pizza”. Over the years, new innovative Wagner products are constantly appearing on the market.
The first broadcast of a Wagner TV spot for Original Wagner Brick Oven Pizza's. The recordings are in the kitchen and living room of none other than Ernst Wagner personally.
Being ahead of the times, meeting growing consumer awareness and seeing and taking advantage of new market opportunities - the will to innovate is a prerequisite for this. The Pizza American Style quickly finds fans and is one of Wagner's most popular products to date.
The first finger food mini pizzas Piccolinis roll out of the oven and are taking the hearts of pizza lovers by storm.
Wagner starts exporting its products to neighboring countries. The people in the Benelux, Austria, Switzerland, France and Denmark are happy with it.
The beloved recipe remains unchanged of course: light, loose and deliciously tender.
We are celebrating an anniversary! Since 1985, the Original Wagner Brick Oven Pizza has been able to make enthusiastic fans with its crispy thin base and delicious, tender topping.
To open up new markets, Wagner entered into a partnership with a strong partner on January 1, 2005: Nestlé Deutschland AG initially acquires 49 percent of the shares of the company.
Nestlé Deutschland AG increases the stake in Wagner Tiefkühlprodukte GmbH to 74 percent. Since Nestlé's participation in 2005, the pizza specialist's turnover has grown by 20 percent - and the share of sales abroad increased from 13 to more than 30%.
Thanks to the naturally ripened sourdough, Wagner guarantees a completely new dimension of crispness and freshness with the Sensazione .
Wagner invests 50 million euros in a new factory in Otzenhausen, Saarland. Until 2013, new production lines will be built here.
Since January 2013, the company has been renamed Nestlé Wagner GmbH. This means that the integration of Wagner into the Nestlé group has been successfully completed. However, the seat is and remains the Saarland.
In August 2013, we will open the most modern frozen pizza factory in Europe. Our production will increase from 280 million to approximately 350 million frozen products per year.

The pizza is dedicated to the pioneering spirit and passion of our founder Ernst Wagner, who brought the idea back home after his trip from Italy. Since April, pizza fans can look forward to five different varieties (Prosciutto, Diavola, Verdure, Salami and Margherita).
At Wagner, we love to keep discovering something new: new cities, new people and different food. The inspiration of our pizza bakers for this time? The flair, appearance and typical dishes of the world's metropolises. The result: a refined pizza dough for our pizza crusts, which are light on the inside and crispy on the outside. Every type of BIG City Pizza is a pure voyage of discovery around the world - every time unique, every time exciting, always crispy brown and delicious!
Wagner will introduce a new umbrella brand logo in 2020. A pizza shovel replaces the lace cloth as a symbol of dough expertise and baking tradition. The colors keep the Wagner brand colors blue, red and white unchanged.
De bijdrage aan een uitgebalanceerd dieet van onze consumenten ligt ons nauw aan het hart, daarom is een continue optimalisatie van onze recepten en de transparantie daarover voor ons zeer belangrijk. Met de invoering van de Nutri-score, een nieuw systeem om voedingswaarden een bepaalde score te geven, gaan we weer een stap verder in de goede richting. Enkele pizza’s hebben al een Nutri-score waardering en eind 2021 willen we ons gehele assortiment voorzien hebben van een Nutri-score.
Een pizza met typische Italiaanse ingrediënten, extra knapperige dunne bodem - dat is waar de BELLA NAPOLI van ERNST WAGNER voor staat. Deze pizza is gewijd aan de pioniersgeest en de passie van onze oprichter Ernst Wagner, die het idee terug bracht naar huis na zijn reis uit Italie. Sinds april 2018 kunnen pizza-fans uitkijken naar vijf verschillende soorten (Diavola, Tonno, Salame, Speciale en Margherita).
